Roland Aira in Eurorack

In my DAWless setup I am frequently changing what gear I have and like trying out new boxes. Importantly I also try and not to hoard the stuff I am not using very much. And so after a few years it is time to part with the Roland Aira T8 and S1 that I have. (The Roland J6 went long ago, as I did not gel with it).

But wait! Whilst scrolling through Printables to create some Eurorack banking plates I came across a holder for mounting a Roland Aira T8 or any synth in the same form factor into my Eurorack Modular system. So for less than a $1 of plastic and a few hours time I had to give it a go before these synths head off to eBay or Reverb.

So how does it work in use. Well we have the Sync in, so no need to use MIDI, so we are off to a good start straight from a Clock Soure. The Mix out I just took straight to my Zoom LiveTrak L6max. The power switch was fiddly to reach, but I could flick the synth on using a patch cable though the slot. I was only using Battery power, but the author of the mount notes that you will need a right angled USB cable to make this work. Something like this. The biggest Caveat is of course, that there is no CV, so you cannot truly work it into a modular mix. It will continue to act as a standalone device. But if you have plenty of HP to spare and a 3D printer, then why not give it a go to bring a Roland Aira right into the heart of a modular setup!
