Behringer Crave Auto Sync Sequencer

I typically use the Behringer Crave with an External Clock sync set, so that any Arpeggios or Sequences are in time with the other gear it is synced to.

However when you want to use an external sequence from a device such as the Circuit Tracks, there is an annoyance that a MIDI start signal is also sent, causing the Crave to play a single repeated note and so you have to hit stop on the Crave to avoid it. After investigating I have found 3 different ways of avoiding this.

Solution 1 – Change Sync to Internal

Disabling the MIDI sync is easy in the GUI, but when DAWless its a bit of a faff since the key combination is difficult to remember:

  • Enter/Exit settings mode by pressing Shift + Hold/Rest + 8
  • Using < and > to change pages, navigate to Page 3 for Clock Source, then select the internal clock

Solution 2 – Make a blank pattern

Create a blank pattern in pattern 1. An initialized pattern will not be silent, but will play one note in a loop, so it is necessary to instead fill the first pattern with Rests. Save the pattern in pattern 1 bank 1

Solution 3 -Disable Auto Sync Sequencer

Connect the Crave to a PC and use the Behringer Synth Tribe software. Here you can disable the ‘auto sync sequencer’ option.

So there you go. Hopefully one of those options can help you out if you come across this issue.
