How to create a DAWless Ambient Techno Jam

Here is a new live DAWless ambient techno jam created with an Arturia Microfreak, Behringer TD-3, Behringer Crave, Novation Circuit Tracks and Valeton GP-200 MultiFX pedal.

DAWless Ambient Techno Electronica Jam

Background Noise

There are 2 instrument tracks on the Circuit Tracks, plus one each on the Crave, Microfreak and TD-3. In advance I setup a Cm-add9th chord on each of the synths (so thats C,D,Eb,G), either as a held chord or a pattern. For drums, using the Circuit tracks, I programmed in a 4 bar loop, but made sure to use the Probability function to give extra variety.

Adding FX

For FX, the TD-3 acid machine is connected into the Valeton GP-200 MultiFX with a patch featuring some Wah on the expression pedal. In reality, the Wah effect is pretty similar to adjusting the tonal controls on the TD-3 itself, but it is nice to experiment with the pedal. The Circuit Tracks has built in Reverb and Delay which is applied to all the channels.

Recording Process

The session was recorded live into Ableton, where nothing was touched on my usual template. Then all I had to do was export the captured Audio file.
